As Hawaiian Alive competition winners, students from Thornlie Senior High School, Claremont Primary, Kalamunda Senior High School and Samson Primary had the opportunity to enjoy a spectacular dance performance by the STEPS Youth Dance Company at the Playhouse Theatre during April.
STEPS' latest performance 'Moonwebs and Scorched Thongs' explores the history, stereotypes and distinctiveness of gender, and provided an energetic and action-packed display of dance and movement.
Thornlie Senior High School Dance Teacher, Madeline Morison, is thrilled with the opportunity the program provides free to her students.
"This excursion meant our students could experience a contemporary dance performance to help broaden their perception of dance, and also give them an appreciation of how it can portray a story and a message."
"The school had already planned an excursion for some students to see the performance, but winning these tickets meant even more students had the opportunity," she said.
The award-winning STEPS Youth Dance Company is Hawaiian's newest sponsor partner, and is nationally renowned for its collaborative performance making. |
